The Idea of Photography

This course focuses on the idea of photography as art during the 20th and 21st centuries. Grounded in historical case studies and moving from the darkroom to digital, the course discusses theories of images and meaning making using historical and contemporary perspectives. Interpretation and analysis of photographic imagery and language are carried out in relation to a range of critical, cultural, aesthetic, social, and technological contexts, including questions of reproduction and representation.
