Mandarin (MDN)
MDN 101 Introductory Mandarin I
This course is designed to help students with no prior background in Chinese Mandarin develop functional communication abilities in all four language skills in spoken and written Mandarin Chinese. By using the standard Hanyu Pinyin phonetic system, a variety of authentic materials, and vocabulary and sentence patterns, students will learn to make statements, ask questions, respond to questions and engage in conversations based upon culturally authentic situations. Specific business vocabulary and cultural etiquette are also introduced.

MDN 201 Introductory Mandarin II
This course is designed to help students with some background in Chinese Mandarin develop functional communication in all four language skills in spoken and written Mandarin Chinese. By building on the skills acquired in Introductory Mandarin I, students will expand on their ability to make statements, ask questions, respond to questions and create conversations based upon culturally authentic situations. Specific business vocabulary and cultural and business etiquette are also expanded.

MDN 301 Intermediate Mandarin I
This course is designed for students who have completed both introductory Mandarin level courses, or equivalent, and want to improve their functional communication abilities in all four language skills. Using the same method as in Introductory Mandarin I and II, students will learn to make increasingly complex statements, ask questions, respond to questions and create conversations based upon culturally authentic situations taken from everyday and business activities.
