The RSU Member Services Office offers:

All full-time (including international, co-op and graduate studies) students are automatically enrolled in the RSU Members’ Health and Dental Plan. This extended insurance package includes a comprehensive set of health and dental benefits that are above and beyond standard provincial health programs such as OHIP. Coverage extends from September 1st to August 31st of each year.

The Health and Dental Plan covers a range of extended benefits, including prescription drugs, nursing, orthotics, diabetic and other medical equipment, ambulance costs, ‘out-of-country’ insurance and a variety of medical services like massage therapy, chiropractic care and physiotherapy. Dental coverage includes: a range of diagnostic, preventative, major and minor restorative, endodontic, and periodontic procedures, as well as extractions, and visits to dental specialists. In many cases, the Plan covers only a portion of fees and costs - students should consult the official dental plan benefits guide (online) for specific details on coverage.

Students who have an extended insurance package through an employer, spouse, parent, or other relative may opt-out of the Health and/or Dental Plan and receive a full refund. To do so visit the Member Services Office by the status-change deadline, the first Friday in October of each year (see below) or go to www.rsuonline.ca/services.

Returning students who already opted-out of the plan will be automatically removed each year they continue to be enrolled as a full-time student.  Those wishing to restore coverage may do so by filing an opt-in application with the Member Services Office by the status change deadline (see below).

All students opting-out of the Health and/or Dental plan each academic year will receive a refund cheque six to eight weeks after the opt-out deadline.

Students who wish to add dependents to the Plan, may do so by paying an additional fee and completing a form in person by the specified deadline.

CopyRITE

CopyRITE is your one-stop campus communications centre. Come in for full service colour or black and white copies and printing, transparencies, binding, laminating, laser printing, faxing, word processing, resumes, scanning and graphic design. CopyRITE has the latest equipment to serve students and the Ryerson Community even better. The professional colour imaging system features cutting-edge technology for the most accurate colour reproduction possible.

CopyRITE’s fleet of self-serve photocopiers also offer you low-cost, convenient printing across the campus. Machines are available 24-hours a day, seven days a week: Ted Rogers School of Management (6th Floor), International Living Learning Centre (basement), Pitman Hall Residence (main floor), Roger’s Communication Centre, Kerr Hall East, Kerr-Jorgenson South Breezeway.

The Used Book Room

At the Used Book Room, students can purchase course books at a significantly lower price than new. At the same time, students can recover some of the money they initially spent on new books when selling through consignment. This service, provided by the Ryerson Students' Union is located inside CopyRITE, and is open throughout the school year with extended hours at the start of each term.  Be sure to bring in your books for consignment after each term or graduation to make some cash.  Books for sale can be searched online, visit www.usedbookroom.ca

Women’s Centre

The Women’s Centre is the Students' Union oldest service and it is one of five Equity Service Groups established to address oppression and issues of equity.  The mission of the Centre is to improve through education and action, the status and condition of all women, including self-identified women, at Ryerson. We do this by providing a safe space for women and women identified individuals on campus as well as addressing issues of concern through campaigns, advocacy and events. The Centre offers many important services and enjoyable events. If you are a Ryerson student interested in issues affecting women on campus, like racism in curriculum, violence in relationships, body issues and eating disorders, lesbianism and bisexuality, the Women's Centre is the place to go for more information and support. The Women’s Centre sponsors education, provides referrals and workshops, shows films, holds discussion groups, displays information on upcoming events, maintains an excellent resources library stocked with books, pamphlets, films, reference materials, newspaper clippings, and in fact, any information for, or about, or by women that we can get our hands on.

The Women's Centre is run by a group of volunteers with the assistance of three part-time staff members.  Men are welcome to use the Women's Centre resources and library however, due to the need for women's only space, we ask that before entering you please knock and ask.  Call the Women’s Centre for more information, and look for our posters around campus to find out when weekly meetings and group discussions are held.

RyePRIDE

RyePRIDE is the Queer Voice of Ryerson. Our mandate is to provide a safe, open environment for lesbians, gays, bisexuals, queer, transgendered and Two-spirited people. RyePRIDE’s aim is not only to provide an affirmative space in which people can make social contacts and find support, but also to ensure that this safe positive, homophobia/transphobia free space extends throughout Ryerson and the greater community.

Throughout the year, RyePRIDE organises various events ranging from social nights to political panels and rallis, including:

• Queer-positive student bar nights, and dirty bingo  
• PRIDE Week Activities
• Anti-homophobia and transphobia campaigns
• Regular workshops and trainings

Community Food Room

The Community Food Room is a service of the Ryerson Students' Union that offers free non-perishable food to students in need, no questions asked.  Additional services offered are: operating as a delivery spot for the Good Food Box that can be purchased to access local fresh fruit and vegetables, a resource library of nutritional information, referrals, cost-saving recipes, advocacy, support and understanding.  This service aims to meet the needs of struggling students who sacrifice food options due to high tuition fees and rent.

Members of the Ryerson community can support the Community Food Room by becoming a volunteer and/or by contributing food or cash donations.

RyeACCESS

RyeACCESS is for students with special needs and alternate abilities, and is modeled on the ideal of peer support, self-identification and advocacy. As a service of the Students' Union, RyeACCESS is open to all students at Ryerson and is intended to be proactive in nature, and to strive to create a positive environment and a place where issues faced by students with disabilities can be identified, linked, and addressed.

RyeACCESS is an advocacy-based initiative, steered by students to meet the non-aademic needs of students with disabilities.;

Students Against Racism

This Equity Service Group of the Ryerson Students' Union works to address issues of racism on and off campus and members work towards building a community. Through education, community organising and our commitment to struggle across difference, the group seeks to responsibly reflect, represent and serve racialised students.

Run by student staff and volunteers this service group combines advocacy, education and awareness initatives to showcase how issues of racism manifest and transcend on campus impacting the lives of students and our community.  The group is looking for volunteers who are ready to get active in making change on and off campus to challenge the various forms of racism.
