The Ryerson Students' Union (RSU) is the Students’ Union for Ryerson’s full-time and graduate studies students. Its purpose is to constantly improve the campus life of all students, by saving students money and making their lives safer, healthier, easier and more fun. Towards this goal, the RSU offers a wide range of services and holds events and activities of both a social and educational nature.
The RSU also represents the collective voice of students for both on and off campus issues as a member of the Canadian Federation of Students (CFS), we are Local 24. Therefore, all Ryerson full-time and graduate studies students are not only members of the RSU, but are also members of the CFS - a group which provides an effective and united voice provincially and nationally, to more than 500,000 students at colleges and universities across the country.
The Board formulates the organization's policies and establishes its direction. This Board is comprised of representatives from each faculty and a four person Executive including: a President, Vice President-Education, Vice President-Finance & Services and Vice President-Student Life and Events. Positions are elected annually during the Winter term by the membership. The Executive is responsible for implementing the Board’s direction, and managing day to day operations of the RSU. The RSU is strongly supported by a full-time staff team who ensure that students’ needs are being met.
Each member pays a levy to the RSU which collectively makes up the operating budget for the RSU. The budget supports a wide range of free or non-profit services and events for students. The RSU also funds over 80 campus groups, student clubs, cultural and religious groups, and course unions, and graduate students' for each program.
Through the RSU, students are working together to build a better campus. As a full-time or graduate studies student, you are a member of this Students’ Union - get involved today! There are a variety of events that occur on a regular basis, the Multicultural show, RSU's Equity Conference, and Open Mic, to special extraordinary affairs like the Annual Parade and Picnic and much more. Campus events get students out to socialize, meet new people and try new things. Events vary in style, size and type - from concerts, ski trips, speakers and the RSU strives to make events accessible, free and all-ages to ensure there is something for everyone. RSU Educational Issues
This open RSU committee seeks to raise awareness about the impact of high student debt and the need for better funding and quality education. Additional areas of work have included lobbying for discounted transit or rallying to expand curriculum options. Everyone is welcome because we know that students working together do make a difference! There are many ways you can get involved - big and small.
