Professional counsellors provide free and confidential individual counselling and group programs regarding a diversity of personal, career and academic issues. Group programs address topics such as stress management, shyness, depression, anxiety, life transitions, family relationships, interpersonal dynamics, career planning, and applying to graduate/professional schools. All communication between students and their counsellor, is strictly confidential within legal guidelines. A copy of the policy on confidentiality is available at the Centre.
The Ryerson Crisis Team is run through the Centre for Student Development and Counselling. Accidents, deaths, assaults, disasters - these and other traumatic events can have an extremely strong impact on individuals, causing disruption in their ability to function. The Ryerson Crisis Team works only with members of the Ryerson community who have been affected by a trauma. All services are free and confidential. To arrange a group debriefing call (416) 979-5195.
The Centre for Student Development and Counselling facilitates the Ryerson Safe House for students who are at risk of physical, sexual or emotional abuse or, who are fleeing intolerable living conditions and have an immediate financial need.
