Biography

Sima Saadi (she/her) is the inaugural recipient of the Geoffrey F. Bruce Postdoctoral Fellowship, working under the supervision of Dr. Carolyn Johns in the Department of Politics and Public Administration. Her research specialization lies in Environment and Freshwater Policy. Sima holds a PhD in Geography from the University of Burgundy, a Master's degree in Geography and Regional Planning with a focus on Economic-Space, and a Bachelor's degree in Human Planning from the University of Tehran in Iran.

Her research interests primarily revolve around Environmental Sustainability, with a particular emphasis on sustainable smart cities, the preservation of sensitive ecosystems such as lakes and wetlands, environmental challenges, and fostering communication and solidarity to build a sustainable future.

In her first year as a postdoctoral researcher, Sima's research interest revolved around the environment and freshwater policy in Canada. She was actively involved in conducting data analysis and geospatial analysis of existing Canadian freshwater data. Building on this foundation, in her second year, Sima is now focused on publishing her findings from the 'Permit to Take Water' and 'DataStream' projects. Additionally, she has initiated a new project examining smart cities from a global perspective, specifically addressing water management challenges. Her ongoing work on climate change continues to integrate these insights into broader environmental and urban development strategies, aiming to influence sustainable practices and policy through her scholarly contributions.
