What does it mean to be a Black TMU grad?

Being a Black grad means everything to me. As a first generation Canadian and student, graduating from post-secondary is one of the life goals that I have strived to achieve to make my parents, my family and my community proud. I hope that my perseverance, discipline and determination to commit to a four year program, especially during the pandemic, is inspiring to not only the younger members of my family, but to other members of the Black community as well.

What advice do you have for other Black students at TMU?

Get involved and find your community. There are so many resources at TMU that can provide you with support as well as amazing people who want to see you succeed and do well. Once you find the people that you can relate to or who are actively supporting you, it makes your post-secondary journey so much more bearable and worthwhile. We are all kids trying to learn how to play this game of life, so make sure you have people by your side who will figure it out with you. Find your village.
