The PhD in Policy Studies is the first and only interdisciplinary doctoral program of its kind in Canada. The program is designed to prepare a new generation of researchers for positions in academe and the public, non-profit and private sectors at the local, regional, national and international levels.

Tamura Sugiman Postdoctoral Fellowship

Tamura Sugiman Postdoctoral Fellowship in Critical Policy Studies cultivate unique and innovative research related to public policy, equity and representation, decolonization and anti-oppression in Canada. This inaugural Fellowship will provide an exciting opportunity for an emerging scholar who wishes to develop a research programme at the interface of community-engaged scholarship and public policy.

Dr. Mohammad Ferdosi has been awarded the inaugural Tamura Sugiman Postdoctoral Fellowship in Critical Policy Studies (formerly known as the Ritsuko Sugiman Postdoctoral Fellowship). He completed his PhD in Political Science Comparative Public Policy at McMaster University in 2022, building upon a foundation in Sociology and Economics—the three main disciplines underpinning the study of political economy.

Geoffrey F. Bruce Fellowship

Geoffrey F. Bruce Fellowship in Canadian Freshwater Policy supports one of Canada’s next environment and freshwater research and policy leaders.

Dr. Sima Saadi is the inaugural recipient of the Geoffrey F. Bruce Postdoctoral Fellowship and specializes in Environment and Freshwater Policy. Dr. Saadi is working with Dr. Carolyn Johns to conduct data and geospatial analysis of fresh, open-water datasets in Canada and the Great Lakes region. She is currently working on two major projects: one examining the use and policy value of open water quality data on the Great Lakes DataStream Platform and another project examining water quantity data in Ontario’s Permit to Take Water and Reported Water Use open datasets.
