CELT/POG 225 METMUN Conference 2024
Last November, the Community-Engaged Learning and Teaching Office (CELT) partnered with Toronto Metropolitan University’s Model United Nations club (MetMUN) to create an immersive and dynamic learning experience through a Model UN conference simulation. This event highlighted TMU’s dedication to academic innovation and leadership by providing Global Governance students in POG 225 with a hands-on opportunity to deepen their learning. In a setting that fostered democratic debate and upheld the principles of international peacekeeping, student delegates honed their negotiation, collaboration, and research skills while striving for local diplomacy in preparation for the three-day conference.
"Participating in Model UN helped me connect the disparate topics discussed in POG225 together. It was a great opportunity to see how each of the pieces of the global landscape interacted with each other to form a greater whole."
"One thing POG225 drills into my mind from day one is to "think critically". Always question, and always try and look at the other side of the story; but ultimately, always look for contradictions"
METMUN is an annual conference traditionally held near the end of the fall semester, serving as both an introductory event for new delegates and a refresher for those returning after a temporary break from Model UN. While the conference offers a welcoming environment for beginners to test their skills, it also presents a challenging opportunity for experienced delegates seeking a high-level conclusion to their Model UN journeys. Regardless of experience level, METMUN 2024 promises an unforgettable experience, providing valuable memories and connections to take away from the largest city in Canada.
