Dr. Anna Triandafyllidou, an internationally recognized sociologist and migration policy expert, joined TMU's Faculty of Arts in 2019 as inaugural Canada Excellence Research Chair in Migration and Integration. She currently leads a team of over 25 researchers and six staff members. One of Dr. Triandafyllidou’s current projects is “An eye for an ‘I’: A critical assessment of artificial intelligence tools in migration and asylum governance,” which aims to critically assess how advanced digital technologies are being used in migration and asylum management around the world.
The CERC in Migration and Integration is producing innovative and usable knowledge on the links between migration and post-migration processes, forced and voluntary mobility, internal and international migration, and the role of countries of origin and transit.
This program builds on TMU's established research strengths in migration, settlement, refugee and diaspora studies whilie developing a research agenda that has a double: domestic and global research and knowledge mobilization focus. The work will focus on five research streams; New trends in migration and mobility in Canada and the world; Migrant agency – as in migrant, stakeholder network and institutions’ agency; A comparative analysis of migration and integration policies and their outcomes; Cities and diversity; Migration challenges facing Canada and the world in 2050. The CERC will also develop a Data and Methods Lab bringing together quantitative and qualitative data, in collaboration with Immigration, Refugees and Citizenship Canada and the Canada Research Data Centre Network.
