The Joseph and Antoinette Sorbara Entrepreneurial Award

The Joseph and Antoinette Sorbara Entrepreneurial Award will provide financial assistance to one part-time or full-time undergraduate, graduate or Chang School student registered with Zone Learning who demonstrates passion to build their business idea and a willingness to collaborate with other Zone Learning members.

Eligibility & Application Information

To be eligible for this award student must:

  • Be the founder of a business or a project in one of the Zones
  • Be enrolled as a full-time or part-time undergraduate, graduate or Chang School student at Toronto Metropolitan University
  • Have clear academic standing
  • Demonstrate passion to build his/her business and a willingness to share and collaborate with others in the Zone ecosystem which in turn creates an impact on other businesses/projects and Zone Learning in general

A completed application must include:

  • Application letter outlining their commitment and passion to their business/project and how they intend to pursue their business innovation (both externally and as part of their university education) as well as their support of other Zone members (maximum of 500 - 750 words);
  • Letter of support from a Zone Director/Coordinator that supports the business/project

Criteria Weighting

  • 60% - Application letter
  • 40% - Letter of support

Selection and Administration
The selection committee will be composed of members from the Office of Zone Learning who must all be Toronto Metropolitan employees. They will review the application information and prepare a ranked list of qualified Award recipients. They will make the final selection of the recipient based on the weighted criteria. If in the opinion of the selection committee no applicants meet the outlined criteria, the award shall not be given to any applicant that year.
