Working as a remote DFZ member in recent years, Nastya also serves as the Biomaterial Studios community project lead at Genspace (external link) in New York City, the world’s first community biology lab. Genspace provides hands-on STEAM education, cultural outreach, and supports New York’s community of creatives, researchers, and entrepreneurs. Her contributions have been instrumental in advancing community-driven biological research and education.

Her recent and notable project, Tender Loops, was developed in collaboration with materials designer Aradhita Parasrampuria. Together they developed a bioyarn from algae biopolymers, resulting in temporary fashion statement pieces that can be worn or displayed as sculptures. Tender Loops is a project that creatively explores traditional craft techniques like knitting and crochet, blending them with mindful and sustainable material innovation to enhance the longevity of physical objects.

We are excited to welcome Nastya back to the DFZ on Tuesday, August 6th, for her Bioplastic Jewelry workshop (external link) . This hands-on session will introduce the community to accessible biomaterial development, focusing on creating jewelry and accessories using compostable DIY materials from Nastya’s collection. Participants will have the chance to experiment with various test samples and craft unique pieces in a relaxed and creative environment.
