2023-24 Year in Review

Message from Dr. Carl Kumaradas, Interim Vice-Provost and Dean, YSGPS

As our world experiences change in multiple dimensions, our graduate and postdoctoral community continues to evolve to respond to these new frontiers. This January, YSGS was renamed the Yeates School of Graduate and Postdoctoral Studies (YSGPS) to recognize the enhanced focus and integration of postdocs and their crucial contributions to TMU’s SRC goals. In addition, YSGPS updated its policies, procedures and guidelines to provide accommodations for graduate students outside of their coursework. And despite fiscal challenges, YSGPS enabled the launch of innovative graduate programs such as the Master of Interior Design and PhD in Architecture.

At the same time, international recruitment continues to be a priority. A diversity of perspectives is critical for a thriving research community, which fuels our national economy and global reputation. To support international enrolment growth and attract the world’s top researchers, YSGPS collaborated with Faculties to implement a comprehensive revenue-sharing arrangement.

As I have transitioned into this new role, and Dr. Janet Koprivnikar has capably taken up the role of interim associate dean, programs, I am grateful to Dr. Nancy Walton, associate dean, student affairs, and the YSGPS team, for stepping up and working together to respond to the changing landscape of graduate education in Ontario and Canada. I encourage our graduate and postdoctoral community to participate where they can as the search for the new vice-provost and dean moves forward.

With our renewed name, structure, and priorities, YSGPS is eager to reach our next destination on our journey forward together.

Dr. Carl Kumaradas
