Water is Fun! Stories for World Water Day 2023
This photo was taken off the coast of Vancouver, British Columbia in September of 2022. This was the first time I got to see wild Orcas! It is something I have always dreamed of and talked about since I was a little kid. It was such a beautiful day and a wonderful experience! I got to see two pods of orcas that day. Now I have seen humpback whales, orcas, minke whales, as well as pilot whales and I am looking forward to what whale species I will see next!

It was three months into the pandemic and thankfully, campsites were open for bookings. A few of my friends and I decided to head out to get some fresh summer air and this is me relaxing in Lake of Two Rivers amidst the covid chaos. I vividly remember the temp being about 28-29C that day and then suddenly dropping to about 8-9C that night. I may or may not have taken a plunge into the lake.
This photo was taken on January 6, 2018, at Nambillo Waterfalls, Mindo-Nambillo Cloud Forest, Ecuador. It was the first time I took my spouse to one of my favourite places. It was a wonderful experience to be there with the person I love. We thanked “Pachamama” Mother Earth for having the opportunity to witness her beauty and the moment we will forever treasure.
September 23, 2017 (Cox’s Bazar, Bangladesh)
This was a golden memory for me and my wife visiting Cox’s Bazar sea beach and staying in an Eco-Resort named Mermaid. Cox’s Bazar sea beach is the world's largest sandy sea beach which is 18 kilometers long. Every year millions of people go there from all over the world. However, due to lack of tourism facilities and attractive policy, the number of foreign tourists is very nominal compared to other tourist locations in the sub-continent. One of the main reasons is the cleanliness of the beach and tourist services coordination among the agencies. Nonetheless, whoever goes there once, I guarantee that it will be an unforgettable experience of enjoying the sandy beach and surrounding it with enormous exploration sites.

The Nahanni River is one of those places that you can go to that helps you connect to "Mother Nature"! As a researcher at Urban Water, daily I am reminded of doing more to protect our most precious resource. My connection to water is strong and you will see Sandy and I enjoying the many rivers, lakes and oceans this planet has to offer. "ENJOY"!
I was lucky enough to visit The Netherlands in the summer of 2022. Pictured here is a canal and urban stream in the city of Gouda (Yes, there was plenty of delicious cheese!). In addition to walking along this canal to visit the many shops and restaurants, I took a boat tour through the city centre. Providing a trade route and stormwater management, the many water features here also make for a beautiful urban landscape. With the accompanying tree canopy, this is a fantastic example of sustainable and human-friendly green infrastructure.
Living in Norway for 5 years definitely solidified my love for water. There are over 1,100 fjords of Norway, and basically that’s what the country’s most famous for all around the world. This picture is taken in Modalen Fjord. On that sunny day, my husband and I had a picnic near the water and enjoyed the view. Although I have to admit, Norway is way too cold for me to go in the water, so I only enjoy it from afar.
