Dr. Carl Mitchell is an Associate Professor and Associate Graduate Chair in the Department of Physical and Environmental Sciences at the University of Toronto (Scarborough). He earned his PhD in Physical Geography from the University of Toronto in 2007. Dr. Mitchell teaches courses in hydrology and watershed management. His research focuses primarily on biogeochemistry, hydrology, urban watersheds and contaminants, and he has published more than 60 peer-reviewed journal articles and book chapters on these topics. Professionally, Dr. Mitchell is currently President of the Canadian Geophysical Union, a professional society representing the interests of over 500 Earth and environmental scientists through annual scientific meetings, awards programs, interactions with funding agencies, and advocating for the role of science in society and policy-making.
