Notice of upcoming change to your POS terminal

March 12, 2021

To: Representatives from units with Transact POS terminals

In October, University Business Services will be decommissioning Ryerson’s existing Transact (formerly Blackboard) point-of-sale (POS) terminals and replacing them with Transact NCR RealPOS CX7 (NCR CX7) POS terminals. You are receiving this communication because you have been identified as a unit operating on campus with an existing Transact POS terminal.

Why is this change happening?

Transact’s POS operating system will move from Windows 7 to Windows 10 in October 2021. The current Transact POS terminals on campus are not compatible with the Windows 10 operating system and will no longer be supported.

What is changing?

On October 1, 2021, all existing Transact POS terminals will be deactivated on campus. Units may choose to have their original Transact POS terminals removed and replaced with new Transact NCR CX7 terminals.

With this change, all existing functionalities of your current Transact POS terminal like menus, inventory controls and transaction reporting will be retained.

Units that allow guests to pay for products or services using their Ryerson OneCard will also require a new Transact MDR5 magnetic stripe reader device as their existing magnetic stripe readers are not compatible with the new Transact NCR CX7 terminals.

Purchase a new Transact NCR CX7 device and/or MRD5 mobile reader device

Pricing

The price of your Transact NCR CX7 terminal and/or Transact MRD5 magnetic reader device will depend on the number of units ordered by Ryerson. We recommend budgeting $5,500 for both units.

Place your order

We encourage you to place your order for a new Transact NCR CX7 terminal and/or Transact MRD5 mobile reader device by March 30, 2021 to ensure you have your devices by the beginning of the Fall 2021 semester.

To purchase one or more Transact NCR CX7 terminals or MRD5 mobile reader devices, please email Evan McCabe at evan.mccabe@torontomu.ca. Please include the following information in your email:

  • The number of Transact NCR CX7 terminals you require;
  • The number of Transact MRD5 mobile reader devices you require;
  • The ethernet port number connected to your current Transact POS terminal;
  • A Ryerson cost centre for your purchase.

In the event you do not have a Ryerson cost centre, an invoice will be generated for you.

Delaying your order

Units that are not currently using their existing Transact POS terminals due to COVID-19 may choose to delay ordering their replacement devices to a future date. However, this change to Transact’s operating system will impact a large number of companies and institutions and we are anticipating potential supply chain issues in the lead up to October 2021 so we encourage you to place your order as early as possible.
