FAQ for Current Students
You must follow the Undeclared Arts curriculum, which can be found in the current Undergraduate Academic Calendar, under "Programs and Academic Departments", "Faculty of Arts".
There are five courses in 1st Semester (Fall term), and five courses in 2nd Semester (Winter term).
You must choose your electives from Table I and Table II in the Undeclared Arts curriculum. These Tables can be found in the Undergraduate Academic Calendar: link to "Programs and Academic Departments", "Faculty of Arts", "Undeclared Arts".
- Table I comprises social science and humanities electives, including those courses that introduce you to the program transfer areas.
- Table II has a wide range of electives from programs outside the Faculty of Arts, such as Ted Rogers School of Management, Faculty of Community Services, Faculty of Science, and The Creative School.
- Many of the courses on Table I and Table II can be used towards a Minor. Refer to Ryerson's Undergraduate Academic Calendar for a complete list of Minors and the Minor course requirements.
- In 1st Semester, choose the Table I courses that allow you to explore the program areas that interest you the most as transfer options. This will help you decide which program to choose by the February 2nd transfer application deadline date.
- Refer to the Transferability Guidelines when choosing Table I courses. It provides important information on the Table I courses you should complete by the end of first year in order to be eligible to transfer to the selected program.
- Some Table I courses have a prerequisite. For example, PSY 102 is a prerequisite for PSY 202, and ENG 110 is a prerequisite for ENG 208. So, if you are considering Psychology and/or English as program transfer options, you should enroll in the appropriate prerequisite course(s) in 1st Semester.

You are required to complete at least six (6) Table I courses, selected as follows: a minimum of two courses from the Table I "Humanities" group, and a minimum of two courses from the Table I "Social Sciences" group.
- If you transfer to a social science program, the two Table I courses that are foundational to that program cannot also satisfy the Table I "Social Science" requirements. This is because these two courses will satisfy core course requirements in your selected program. So, for example, if you transfer to Sociology, SOC 105 and SOC 107 will satisfy the core course requirements for Sociology, but you must also complete two other courses from the Table I "Social Sciences" group to satisfy Table I requirements.
- If you transfer to a humanities program, the two Table I courses that are foundational to that program cannot also satisfy the Table I "Humanities" requirements. This is because these two courses will satisfy core course requirements in your selected program. For example, if you transfer to English, ENG 108 and ENG 208 will satisfy the core course requirements for English, but you must also complete two other courses from the Table I "Humanities" group to satisfy Table I requirements.
- You must have at least one Table II course by the end of first year of Undeclared Arts.
- You may choose up to two Table II courses in first year of Undeclared Arts.
- Use the (PDF file) Undeclared Arts Curriculum Checklist to keep track of your course requirements during 1st and 2nd Semester of Undeclared Arts and to ensure you complete the appropriate ten (10) courses required to transfer seamlessly into second year of the selected program.
