I have found speaking with the press an opportunity to provide an informed point of view on issues that are more often than not, misunderstood by both the public and quite often the press. Exposure to the press can often result in being contacted by other media and by other interested parties to participate in events related to your expertise which can be quite rewarding. Finally, you have to remember that you are the expert and you will always know more than the interviewer, who is looking for that 10 second sound bite or a quote that can be used in their report. It can be frustrating sometimes, but seeing yourself referenced in relation to an interesting or important story is usually worth it.
