Our mission as researchers and educators is the discovery of new knowledge and the sharing of it with the rest of society – to help them make use of it and improve the lives of everyone around us.
It’s not enough that we publish our discoveries in obscure academic journals read only by a very few other specialists. We have an obligation to bring this publically funded new knowledge to the classroom and outside of campus to the broader society.
That’s where having a good relationship with the media is crucial. Whether pitching new stories based on our discoveries or making ourselves available to comment on the stories of the day, engagement with the media is one of the best ways of using our expert knowledge to help society have better insights into the world and make better decisions on important issues.
