Engaging with the media garners great exposure for my research expertise and TRSM more broadly.
As an educator, I love educating people beyond the classroom. One of the best ways, I find, in reaching a broader audience is through the media, either by doing live in-studio interviews or speaking to reporters on the phone.
We live in an information era where everyone’s daily lives are affected by cybersecurity or lack thereof. We are faced with generations of people who, although very educated, do not have a formal IT security education, but still do their online banking on devices that may not be secure. Media can help us reach out to these groups of people and increase their awareness of cybersecurity issues.
As a researcher in information systems security and privacy, my work, although very technical, can have direct implications on people’s lives. Media can help me to promote my research and TRSM’s research reputation, as well as reach out to an audience that we would otherwise not be able to access easily.
