Policies

If you're admitted to an undergraduate program, you'll need to complete at least 50% of the program's courses at Toronto Metropolitan University (TMU). This means that only 50% of your course credits can come from transfer credits, challenge credits, or credits granted while on a Letter of Permission (LOP).

Courses from accredited universities will be considered for transfer credit. They must be completed with a minimum grade of 60% or C-.

Academic courses from accredited colleges and institutes of technology will be considered for transfer credit. They must be completed with a minimum grade of 70% or B-. Some college courses will not transfer, no matter the grade.

Only alpha or percentage grades are acceptable for transfer credit. Indicators such as PSD (passed), CRT (credit), EXP (exempt), EXM (exam) are not acceptable.

Review your Offer of Admission for transfer credit information and restrictions. If transfer credits were granted with your Offer, you don't need to apply for these credits. They'll be added to your Transfer Credit Report. If your courses were used as the basis of admission (BOA), they may not be eligible for further transfer credit.

Most of our pathway programs (Direct Entry and Degree Completion) don’t allow for extra transfer credits. This is because your previous courses are used to place you in an upper level. Your Offer of Admission may contain more details.

You don't need to submit transcripts already sent with your application for admission. However, you must provide course codes and final grades on your Transfer Credit Application. If we need a more recent transcript, we'll notify you by email.

You can apply for transfer credits for completed or ongoing courses. Unofficial credits for ongoing courses will be provided if possible.

Non-degree/diploma courses are not eligible for transfer credit. This includes "certificate level" courses, course series and workshops.

Courses completed over 10 years ago require individual faculty evaluation. If your courses were completed over 10 years ago, you'll receive an email from us with specific instructions to upload the original course outline for evaluation. Course content is subject to change over time. In order to meet current curriculum, accreditation and learning outcome requirements, some courses completed 10 years ago or more may not be recognized for transfer credit. If you’re granted the credits, these courses may have a prefix “OLD” added to the course code on your Transfer Credit Report.
