Fashion students hit the runway at INTRO fashion show and exhibit
INTRO is a student-produced annual runway and exhibit event dedicated to showcasing the work of emerging fashion designers and visual artists in Toronto through a yearly runway and exhibit event. It offers a space for young creatives in fashion, visual arts and the performing arts to establish their brands, gain exposure, and unlock multiple opportunities for career growth within the creative industries.
INTRO 2024 was held on May 1 at Longboat Hall, with over 30 local designers from Toronto participating. The evening featured three themed runways: one showcasing the mind as a surreal haute couture, another celebrating the heart and love's diverse forms, and one using the body to challenge the norms with bold designs. Additionally, the event highlighted emerging creatives and performers through an exhibit and live events, showcasing an unforgettable journey through the art of fashion.

Celebrating self-expression through fashion
This season's theme, ESSENCE, celebrated the bold and unexpected expressions of the mind, heart, and body. The designs delved into the depths of individuality, where fashion became a canvas for self-expression like never before. From avant-garde designs that push the boundaries of creativity to timeless classics reimagined with a modern twist, the runway was illuminated with energy, passion, and the pure essence of style.
“It's amazing to see how many artists, designers, and performers come together to bring this idea to life and showcase their work,” said third-year Graphic Communications Management student Isa Morales Leon, public and corporate relations lead for INTRO 2024. “INTRO offers students a fantastic opportunity to network with other creatives in Toronto, develop their personal brands and gain exposure to the industry.”
Gaining industry exposure
Third-year student Kenneth Okafor was one of the featured student designers. Okafor showcased his original label, called Plain Business, featuring contemporary streetwear designs. He expressed the value of opportunities for students to participate in the local fashion community and his gratitude for the chance for his brand to gain industry exposure.

“INTRO gives a platform for fashion enthusiasts to showcase their talents and pieces of work,” said Okafor. “The show and exhibition encourages a wide demographic of fashion enthusiasts to bring their unique styles to light without any boundaries on their creativity.”
