The Creative School students collaborate with peers in London and Seoul on creative projects
Students from The Creative School in Toronto, University of Westminster in London, UK, and Seoul Institute of the Arts in Seoul, South Korea put their final projects on display at the virtual Global Campus Studio Showcase. The Global Campus Studio (GCS) is a virtual hub created by The Creative School for international collaboration and co-creation among university students in Canada and around the world.
Kim Wilson, the Interim Global Campus Studio Faculty Lead, began the showcase congratulating the students on their successful semester-long journeys.
“It is always so inspiring to see students as they shine and learn new skills through global creative collaboration,” she said. “I am so proud to be part of this initiative and excited to see what next year brings.”
Global Campus Studio is an internationally-focused offering that provides students at Toronto Metropolitan University and partner institutions around the world the opportunity to collaborate with diverse international teams on original creative projects. Students also develop an understanding of global collaboration and online co-creation, and working successfully in diverse, remote teams.
"Internationalization is a pillar at The Creative School and Global Campus Studio is one of the unique and boundary-pushing international opportunities that students across The Creative School have the opportunity to engage in,” says Sadia Kamran, Manager of International Development. “We aim to build on our continued success and momentum with over 50 international partners while intentionally diversifying accessible international opportunities at The Creative School."
Transcending borders
With an online studio setting, using contemporary collaboration tools and technologies, student projects engage in disciplines ranging from television to film, performance, fashion, documentary, experiential entertainment and beyond. This year, student projects focused on topics varying from augmented reality (AR), virtual reality (VR), and reimagining community engagement through creativity and media.
Although student members were from different countries with varying schedules and large time differences, they were able to find common ground to collaborate and complete their final projects. For many of these students, it was their first time working with students from other places in the world.
“I joined this experience with the mindset of meeting new people and learning new forms of collaboration,” says Eunice Boka Niasa, from University of Westminster. “It was my first time working with people from different countries but it was an amazing experience. I would definitely recommend it.”
Seohee Im, from Seoul Institute of the Arts, says participating in the Global Campus Studio was a great learning experience, and a unique opportunity to collaborate with other students worldwide.
“We found ways to collaborate, even with the time differences and our busy schedules,” says Im. “We were learning all at the same time, just in different countries. We were able to collaborate on different social media platforms to communicate and Canva to create our own original designs.”
