The EDC will close Dec 13th at Noon for the winter break.
The EDC will open Jan 10th 2025.
Fines & Fees
To ensure the availability of equipment to all students your faculty imposes fines for various offences. Fines are enforced and processed by the EDC. These fines are intended to ensure that all items borrowed from the EDC are returned on time for the next patron's use and treated with care and respect so they are returned in working condition and in good repair.
There are no fees required for borrowing equipment from the EDC, but fines will be imposed if items are late, damaged, lost (includes stolen while in the patron's possession) and improper use.
Part-time EDC Student staff have no authority over any fines. If you have a question or dispute regarding a fine on your account, must speak with a full-time OTI EDC staff member. Email is the best option (creativeedc@torontomu.ca (opens in new window) ).
Fines may result in the suspension of EDC borrowing privileges until the fine is paid.
Paying a Fine
All fines must be paid in person in the EDC. Students must load the funds on their OneCard's Campus Fund account. Funds can be loaded by:
- Cash via OneCard machines (located around campus)
- Debt/Credit via OneCard eAccounts (opens in new window)
After loading funds on your OneCard, come to the EDC to pay your fine.
Note: There is no online option to pay fines at this time.
Fine Types
Late Fine
Late fines are incurred when items or keys in an allocation are returned after the established return time. The fine amount is as follows:
- $10 immediately, and an additional $10 every half hour after. For example:
- 10 minutes late = $10 fine
- 40 minutes late = $20 fine
- 1 hour and 20 minutes late = $30 fine
- 1 hour and 35 minutes late = $40 fine
- Maximum fine of $100 per day
- Maximum fine of the value of the equipment that is late
- When the value of the gear is less than the fine incurred, the fine is reduced to the total value of the equipment that is late. This is done after the late items are returned to the EDC
- Fines will increase when the EDC is closed
- The EDC being closed does not stop a fine from increasing. If items are late overnight or over a weekend/Sunday, the late fine will continue to increase
- Late returns to Keytracer will be fined
- Fines will be implemented keys not returned to the Keytracer cabinet by the return time established in Webcheckout
Improper Use Fine
Fines for improper usage of facilities may be levied on patron's accounts. These fines are determined based on the posted fine in the facility used. All schools reserve the right to add additional fines to students accounts when deemed necessary.
Improper usage refers to the state of the facility (food or drinks in the facility, garbage left in room, equipment/items not put away, disconnecting of equipment/wires, re-wiring of room, etc).
Damage Fine
It is your responsibility to ensure items borrowed are returned undamaged and in good state to the EDC. Items returned damaged are subject to a fine. The fine amount will be equal to the repair costs. There is no limit for damage fines.
When you borrow items, it is your responsibility to check everything to make sure they work and are not damaged before you leave the EDC.
Lost/Stolen Resource Fine
Any items that are lost while in a patron's possession will result in a fine. Patrons will be charged the replacement value of the items lost.
This includes items that are stolen while in the patron's possession. Fines for lost or stolen items are valid regardless of where they were lost or stolen, be it while on TMU property or off-campus. It is the responsibility of the patron to care for all items they have checked out in their possession.
