Dr. John Shiga

John Shiga is an Associate Professor in the School of Professional Communication at in The Creative School where he teaches courses on urban media, cross-cultural communication, knowledge translation, science communication, and communication for social change. He has published widely in the fields of media studies, legal studies, sound studies and environmental humanities. His current research and creative projects focus on the political histories of underwater sound, ocean science, nuclear imperialism and environmental sensing infrastructures. He currently serves as Graduate Program Director of the Media and Design Innovation PhD program in The Creative School.

Audible Oceans supports transdisciplinary research and creative activities that delve into the intersections of sound, media and the environment. Audible Oceans is part of the Ambient Governance project led by John Shiga and funded by the Social Sciences and Humanities Research Council of Canada.
