Dr. Jessica Mudry

Jessica Mudry is an Associate Professor and Chair of the School of Professional Communication. She is a former organic chemist, after which she moved to science communication and media production and research for the BBC and the Discovery Channel - she continues to create for the annual World Congress of Science and Factual Producers, ZDF, and NSERC.  

Her scholarship focuses on the languages of science, health and medicine in politics and popular culture.  She is the Director of the Creative School's Healthcare User Experience (HUE) Lab where her current research in public health communication, health equity and the medical humanities finds a good home.  She has been an Erasmus Scholar at the École des Hautes Études en santé publique in France, and has completed Health Equity training at Harvard University's Medical School.

Her past academic projects have included work in Food Studies; Science and Technology Studies; Public Health, and Environmental Communication.  She has been awarded funding from NSERC, SSHRC, FQRSC and the Public Health Agency of Canada.

TMU’s Healthcare User Experience (HUE) Lab is a creative research space that uses human-centred principles of innovation, design, and strategic communication to make the healthcare experience better for both patients, and practitioners. Housed in The Creative School, and with a breadth of faculty and students committed to equity, community, and collaboration, the HUE Lab unites design thinking, interdisciplinary teamwork and knowledge mobilization strategies to solve healthcare challenges and to improve healthcare for the users.
