Ted Rogers School faculty and staff win TMU teaching, service and leadership awards

Congratulations to three members of the Ted Rogers School of Management community who were recently recognized for their excellence in teaching, service and leadership with 2025 Toronto Metropolitan University awards. 

Entrepreneurship & Innovation Professor Sean Wise won this year’s President’s Award for Teaching Excellence. This award recognizes an outstanding TMU educator who has demonstrated continuing teaching excellence and who has made contributions to advancing teaching and learning at the university.

Dr. Wise has revolutionized entrepreneurial education at TMU and beyond. Through his innovative programs, including “100 Steps 2 Startup” and the “Naked Entrepreneur” series, he has empowered thousands of students with practical, experiential learning opportunities. A dedicated mentor, Dr. Wise has inspired students to launch successful ventures and pursue impactful careers. His contributions to inclusive education reflect his commitment to fostering diversity and excellence in teaching.

Staff member Martha Castillo, a Web Developer on Ted Rogers School’s Marketing and Communications team, was the recipient of the Julia Hanigsberg Make Your Mark Staff Award. This award recognizes up to six individuals and teams who have demonstrated excellence in one of the following areas: client service, community engagement, innovation and sustainability.

Castillo supports various teams by maintaining websites, implementing new applications and leading major projects, such as the implementation of Salesforce and transitioning to a new Adobe web template. Her proactive, client-focused approach ensures high-quality communication, branding and user experience across platforms. Castillo also leads training initiatives for staff, optimizing their web practices. Her leadership in impactful projects, like the EDIA report, has been essential to the communication of the school's success.

Hospitality & Tourism Management Professor Frederic Dimanche won the Errol Aspevig Award for Outstanding Academic Leadership. This award recognizes up to two individuals who have advanced the mission of TMU through outstanding academic leadership and who have contributed significantly to the enhancement of academic life at the university and beyond.    

As a decade-long leader in the HTM program, Dr. Dimanche is a tireless advocate for all things HTM. he takes pride in constantly promoting all the good happening within the HTM community, not just with research recognition and student accomplishments, but also alumni, industry partners and everyone who contributes to this unique community.

The winners will be presented with their awards at the Toronto Met Awards Gala at the Mattamy Athletic Centre on May 8, 2025.
