Congratulations to Information and Technology Management Associate Professor Atefeh (Atty) Mashatan for winning a Women’s Executive Network (WXN) 2024 Canada’s Most Powerful Women: Top 100 Award (external link, opens in new window) .

These awards span the private, public and not-for-profit sectors, with the winners selected by WXN's Global Alliance for Inclusive Leadership. They are presented to bold women in 12 categories that highlight extraordinary contributions across a wide spectrum of career stages, professions and industries.

Mashatan, the founding director of Ted Rogers School of Management’s Cybersecurity Research Lab and a Canada Research Chair (Tier II) in Quality of Security (QoS) Framework for Internet-of-Things (IoT), won the award in the BMO STEM category. This category recognizes women in the field who are challenging the status quo for knowledge and female empowerment.

Mashatan is a leading expert in cryptography, blockchain technology, quantum-resistant solutions, enterprise security architecture and IoT security. She is also a catalyst for women in IT. She helped to design the Cybersecurity Training and Work Integrated Learning (CTWIL) program with the Information Communications Technology Council of Canada to support female students interested in entering the field.

This is not the first time Mashatan has been recognized by the WXN for her work. Last year, she received a 2023 Canada’s Most Powerful Women: Top 100 Award in the Executive Leaders category. She has also been recognized as the Top 25 Women of Influence (2024) by Women of Influence+, Canada’s Cyber Security Research Expert of the Year (2023) by Wealth & Finance International and the Top 5 Women of Influence in Security 2019 by SC Magazine.

Mashatan and the other 2024 WXN Top 100 award winners will be celebrated in person at the 22nd annual Top 100 Awards Gala, hosted at the Fairmont Royal York Toronto on November 27, 2024.
