Accounting students at the Ted Rogers School of Management made a rare ACHIEVE-ment recently. Not only did they help organize ACHIEVE -- one of Canada's leading undergraduate accounting conferences -- they also took home first place in the case competition.
The ACHIEVE conference is an annual event hosted by Toronto Met Accounting, a student-run accounting society at the Ted Rogers School. Now in its 16th year, the conference is designed to further the personal and professional development of accounting students, and features networking opportunities, interactive workshops and inspiring keynotes. This year’s conference took place January 19-21 and had students from seven universities in Canada attending.
As part of the conference, the ACHIEVE Case Competition focuses on current trends and challenges that influence and are reflected within the accounting industry. This year, the theme for the competition was “Banking Crisis.” This theme emphasized key areas like financial stability, risk management, regulatory compliance and ethical considerations, and provided a real-world context for applying accounting principles and practices.
A total of 15 teams of three to four accounting/business students competed in the case challenge. A group made up of Ted Rogers School students Dennis Chen, George Chibukhchyan and Benjamin Cohen and Ontario Tech University student Abu George Kuttenchirayil from were crowned champions of the competition. As winners, the team received a $1,500 prize, an Achievement Award and a Ranked LinkedIn Badge.
Congratulations to the winning team and to Toronto Met Accounting for putting on another successful conference!
