Four TRSM researchers win SSHRC funding

Congratulations to Murtaza Haider, Lucas Dufour, Mohammad Nikoofal and Matthew Philp who have been awarded prestigious SSHRC Partnership Engage Grants and SSHRC Insight Grants by the Social Sciences and Humanities Research Council (SSHRC).

Dr. Murtaza Haider, professor of Data Science and Real Estate Management, received a SSHRC Partnership Engage Grant, which supports research projects that address a specific organization or stakeholder need, for his research “Understanding the determinants of time-intensive processes and procedures in the development approvals process.”

Dr. Lucas Dufour, assistant professor of Human Resources Management and Organizational Behaviour, received a SSHRC Insight Grant, which supports research excellence in the social sciences and humanities. Dufour, with colleagues Meena Andiappan from University of Toronto, Babatunde O. Ogunfowora from University of Calgary, and collaborator Walid Nakara from Université de Montpellier, received $71,794 in support of his research, “Socializing scruples: The effects of morally-oriented socialization on newcomer's unethical pro-organizational behavior over time.” 

Dr. Mohammad Nikoofal, associate professor in Global Management Studies, received a SSHRC Insight Grant of $81,500 in support of his research, “Designing Economic Incentives to Enhance E-commerce Supply Chain Cybersecurity,” with colleague Manaf Zargoush of McMaster University. 

Dr. Matthew Philp, assistant professor in Marketing Management, received a SSHRC Insight Grant of $96,917, in collaboration with Dr. Anatoliy Gruzd and Dr. Jenna Jacobson, also from Toronto Metropolitan University, in support of his research, “Feeding the Economic Recovery: Using Social Media Content to Predict Resilience in Canada’s Foodservice Sector.”

In total, 19 researchers at Toronto Metropolitan University received nearly $1.7M in federal research funding.

Across Canada, just under $150 million (external link)  was awarded to 605 researchers (external link)  working in social sciences and humanities disciplines through SSHRC grants.
