Congratulations to Dr. Daniele Bertolini for winning the second edition of the McGill Law Journal essay competition. The competition included articles written in English in the most recent two volumes of the academic journal, published between 2020 - 2022 (external link, opens in new window) .
The Annual McGill Law Journal Essay Contest (external link, opens in new window) aims to celebrate and promote scholarship by emerging academics in Canada and internationally. An award of $5,000 (CAD) is given for an exemplary article that “makes the most significant contribution to the study and understanding of law in Canada or internationally,” and is published by an individual in their first academic appointment in law or a related field.
Bertolini, an associate professor at the Law and Business Department at the Ted Rogers School of Management, won the competition for his article called, “Unpacking Entire Agreement Clauses: On the (Elusive) Search for Contractually Induced Formalism in Contractual Adjudication (external link, opens in new window) ” published in 2021.
The McGill Law Journal told Bertolini, “A jury of five people, including three members of the Journal and two lawyers, was very impressed by the literary quality and originality of your article."
Bertolini, who received the Ted Rogers School's Research Recognition Award in 2021 for his scholarly achievements, joined the faculty in August 2015. He teaches courses in business law and environmental law among others, and his research is focused on the intersection between economic and philosophical approaches to law with an emphasis on contract law.
“We are incredibly proud of Dr. Bertolini,” said Dr. Chris MacDonald, chair of the Law and Business Department at Ted Rogers. “This is a very prestigious prize, and is an indicator of the kind of high-calibre research talent that TRSM is attracting. The Department of Law and Business is very pleased to count a scholar like Dr. Bertolini among its faculty.”
The award was presented to Dr. Bertolini at the McGill Law Journal's Annual Lecture on March 23, 2023.
