Sal Chaudhry protects families and frontline workers with mask company

Noticing the lack of quality protection during the COVID-19 pandemic, Sal Chaudhry wanted to create masks to better protect the community, and his Ted Rogers MBA provided him with the entrepreneurial focus and network to help him do it.
As a student in the Ted Rogers MBA program, Chaudhry co-founded the company Maskwell (opens in new window) , which builds reusable masks that feature high-efficiency replaceable filters. The company also donates 10% of all sales to help frontline healthcare workers get the personal protective equipment (PPE) they need.
Here is what the recent graduate had to say about Maskwell, and how the skills he learned in the Ted Rogers MBA program helped him develop his company:
Tell us about your organization/work.
Maskwell is a Toronto-based mask company which specializes in providing superior protection through its replaceable polypropylene MERV-13 filters. The high-efficiency filters and the minimalistic design of the masks help keep you healthy during uncertain times. The company also offers a range of accessories and multi-packs to make wearing a mask easier and for sharing the gift of protection. And because Maskwell believes that we all have a role to play in addressing the global pandemic, every purchase includes a donation to provide personal protection equipment to those in need.
What inspired you to start this company?
Maskwell was inspired by necessity. When the pandemic first became a reality in Canada, there was a significant shortage of masks for the general public. The Maskwell team sprung into action by developing PPE protection to alleviate the shortage. We immediately recognized the need to provide the public with access to masks, and also give back to those who need protection most through our partner charity.
Why did you pursue your MBA and why did you choose the Ted Rogers MBA program?
I pursued my MBA with the goal of further developing my skill-set and transitioning into new industries. One of the primary reasons I chose the Ted Rogers MBA was specifically for their entrepreneurial network and focus.
How did the Ted Rogers MBA program assist you on your entrepreneurial journey?
The Ted Rogers MBA enabled me to take Maskwell through the entrepreneurial capstone project. This project helped me build and further develop Maskwell. Additionally, the Ted Rogers MBA program helped introduce me to the DMZ and Ryerson Fashion Zone, which were both instrumental in helping me develop the brand.
