Clockwise from top: Jackson Scarfe, Camilla Racco and Dr. Karen Peesker
The Ted Rogers Undergraduate Sales Team (TRUST) from Ryerson University was the only Canadian university who qualified to compete in a prestigious US sales competition.
The team finished in 8th place at the U.S. National Collegiate Sales Competition (NCSC), continuing their success in numerous international competitions this semester.
“This achievement by our students on the North American stage is inspiring,” says Dr. Karen Peesker, Director of the Ted Rogers Sales Leadership Program at the Ted Rogers School of Management. "We are thrilled that our team made it to the sweet 16 and achieved 8th place out of 68 universities."
The NSCS, hosted by Kennesaw State University’s Michael J. Coles College of Business, is the world’s oldest and largest collegiate sales competition. This year’s event, held virtually March 6 to 8, 2021, featured more than 130 top sales students from 68 universities putting their skills to the test in team-based and one-on-one sales call simulations.
Ted Rogers School student Jackson Scarfe advanced to the semi-finals at the event, while team captain Camilla Racco made it to the quarter-finals. Leora Haslett, Harnoor Khattar, Hamaseh Sobati and Eric Almon also had strong performances at the speed selling event.
“Sales and marketing are among the specializations most highly sought after by employers in Canada today, and it is crucial that Canadian business students receive training in how to sell ethically and how to lead successful sales teams with integrity,” says Dr. Peesker. This is why the Ted Rogers Sales Leadership Program was created at the Ted Rogers School.
Launched in 2018, the Ted Rogers Sales Leadership Program provides specialized experiential learning opportunities for emerging sales leaders aimed at developing professional sales skills. It is one of the first programs of its kind offered at an English-speaking Canadian university.
Since its inception, TRUST has been bringing home many honours for the program. The team won the North East Intercollegiate Sales Competition in 2018, and was first runner-up at the same event the following year. The team was also named the top international school at the 2019 NCSC competition.
