Dr. Mario Silva appointed Vice-Chair of Human Rights Tribunal of Ontario
Congratulations to Law & Business Distinguished Fellow Dr. Mario Silva for being named a Vice-Chair of the Human Rights Tribunal of Ontario.
The Human Rights Tribunal of Ontario resolves claims of discrimination and harassment brought under the Human Rights Code. Members of the Tribunal are appointed by the Lieutenant Governor in Council.
Dr. Silva joined the Ted Rogers School in 2015 as a Distinguished Visiting Professor and gave guest lectures on topics related to privacy, human rights and security. He became a Distinguished Fellow in the Law & Business program in 2019.
As a former Member of Parliament and Toronto city councillor, Dr. Silva holds a PhD in International Law with expertise in human rights, privacy and security. He has published four books and over 10 articles in international legal journals.
Dr. Silva has been awarded the Order of Merit of Portugal, the Order of Rio Branco from Brazil and Ordre national de la Légion d'honneur from France, and was appointed the 2013 Chair of the International Holocaust Remembrance Alliance by the Government of Canada. He has also served on many boards, panels and committees throughout his career, including Toronto Hydro-Electric System Limited, International Council on Local Environmental Initiatives, the Brazil Institute of Canada and the International Association of Genocide Scholars.
