A team of TRSM Human Resources Management & Organizational Behaviour students took first place in the Human Resources Professionals Association (HRPA) Toronto Chapter’s first-ever HR Case Competition (external link)  on March 25th.

Congratulations to TRSM team members Lien Chia, Katharine Heng, and Nasrudin Mumin!

The case competition was organized by the HRPA Toronto Chapter Student Affairs Committee and brought together future HR professionals from seven of Ontario’s leading post-secondary institutions to tackle the theme of “Developing Leaders: Addressing Organizational Challenges in a Global Marketplace.”

The TRSM team won for their presentation and strategic approach that recommended, among other initiatives, that eBay implement an inclusive training program sponsored by the executive team to assist in disseminating the cultural changes on a global scale, leveraging the use of their existing playbook and other technologies, such as an app.

According to the winning team, their recommendations would organically create brand ambassadors and improve employee engagement, as well as customer satisfaction, ultimately resulting in increased market share.

Judges for the case competition included HR executives from many leading companies, including CIBC Mellon, Zanchin Automotive Group, Umbra Ltd, and Home Trust Company.

For their successful pitch, the TRSM team received free one-year HRPA student memberships and gift cards, and the Ted Rogers School of Management was engraved on the HR Business Excellence plaque.

The plaque, which TRSM will keep until the next edition of the competition in 2018, was given to the winning team by HRPA Toronto representatives during the HRM Grad Breakfast, an annual networking event for graduating students offered by the TRSM Business Career Hub.

Congratulations to Lien, Katharine, and Nasrudin!
