In the final year of my undergraduate degree, I had the privilege of participating in Toronto Metropolitan University's Law and Business Clinic. As a student in the Clinic, I assisted an entrepreneur with legal matters such as drafting Non-Disclosure Agreement, Consultant Agreement and Employee Stock Ownership Plan. It was an invaluable opportunity as it allowed me to gain first-hand exposure to the legal industry, working directly with lawyers, clients and student colleagues. This experience was unique as the Toronto Metropolitan University Law and Business Clinic is one of the select university legal clinics offered to undergraduate students in Canada. This specialized program granted me the opportunity to understand the various daily responsibilities of a corporate lawyer. The clinic provided me with practical and theoretical legal experience while also enabling me to interact with Toronto Metropolitan University community members seeking professional legal advice for their startup ventures. My time at the Clinic also gave me insight into the need for pro bono legal services. The experience emphasized the role of legal clinics in reducing the lack of access to justice in Canada. I highly recommend this Clinic to any student looking to enrich their experience in the field of business law.
