Dr. David Martin teaches last class at #HTMRyerson
After over 25 years of teaching, Dr. David Martin taught his last class at #HTMRyerson! His last class was for the HTA708 course.
Dr. Martin was the Director of our School for 10 years from 2005 to 2015, overseeing the move from the International Learning and Living Centre (ILC) to the Ted Rogers School of Management building (TRS). He championed the project to build the TRSM Commons and Demonstration Kitchen, including our test and prep kitchen, as well as our student-run restaurant, RU Dining.
He was the recipient of the 2013 Educator of the Year Award from the Ontario Hostelry Institute (OHI) and the 2008 OHI Fellowship.
He taught our Service and Professionalism, Advanced Service Management and Revenue Management for Hospitality and Tourism courses at Ryerson, as well as lectured in Service Quality and Strategic Management for the MBA Hospitality and Tourism Management Program at the University of Guelph and the MS Hotel and Restaurant Program at Rochester Institute of Technology (Kosovo, Croatia, and Dominican Republic Campuses).
He developed and delivered management training programs for Delta Hotels and Accor Hotels and Resorts, Imago Restaurants and Service Inspired Restaurants using real-time computerized simulation programs. The emphasis of this training is a balanced approach to operations management that includes both financial as well as service management strategies to running successful hospitality operations.
His prime research interest has been in Customer Service Management, Business Simulations, and Culinary Tourism. Congratulations Dr. Martin!
