Discover the Majors

Are you interested in learning more about the Ted Rogers School offers? The Discover the Majors Series is for you. 

In this podcast series, you will hear from upper- year students about their experience in their respective major of the 12 majors that the Ted Rogers School of Management offers. You will hear about why they chose their major, their first-year experience, different courses, opportunities and how to get involved,  the Ted Rogers Co-op Program, and much more. Economics and Management Science

Bebake Bains, a Business Management student majoring in Economics and Management Science, talks about her experience in the major and how she knew it was the right fit for her. Bebake is part of the Ted Rogers Economic Society (TRES) (external link) , which is the course union for the major and shares how they support EMS students. She talks about what her classes were like in her first year and how they compare to her classes now that she declared her major. Bebake also goes on to share how she was able to make friends in her first year and how she has made lasting connections.

Entrepreneurship and Strategy

Evan Bacal, a Business Management student majoring in Entrepreneurship and Strategy, shares his first-year experience and how he decided what major to pursue. He is also currently the President of the Toronto Metropolitan Sports and Business Association (TMSBA) (external link) . Evan was debating between majoring in Marketing Management and Entrepreneurship and Strategy, but ultimately decided to major in Entrepreneurship because it is hands-on and the projects push students to develop an entrepreneurial mindset, unleash their creativity and take action.

Global Management Studies

Katie Doan, a Business Management student majoring in Global Management Studies (GMS), discusses how her major gives her a wide range of opportunities to learn various topics, explore different interests, and the group work required which allowed her to get out of her comfort zone. As an international student, Katie shares what drew her to the Ted Rogers School and how she can take what she learns from her major and the Ted Rogers Co-op Program and apply it wherever she goes. back home to start a business. Katie is also a co-op student and talks about the roles she has been in and some of her accomplishments. 

Human Resources Management

Bavisha Thavarajah, Business Management student majoring in Human Resources Management, shares why she chose her major and how she built community at the Ted Rogers School. She is currently part of  Toronto Met Accounting (external link) , a TedPack Mentor, Co-op Connect Mentor, and an Academic Peer Helper. Bavisha discusses the different courses in the HRM major, courses, career pathways, and more. She talks about different opportunities on campus that students can take advantage of in their first- year to start engaging in the TRSM community.

Law and Business

Simrun Nagpaul, a Business Management student majoring in  Law and Business, discusses what her major is like and the skills she’s gained. Currently, she is the President of the Law and Business Student Association (LBSA) (external link)  which is the course union and shares how they support students in the major. Simrun talks about different resources that helped her in her first- year such as the Program Advising and Student Success (PASS). Simrun is also a Ted Rogers Co-op student and shares different career paths in the major and how what she has learned applies in the real world.

Marketing Management

Victor Etti, a Business Management student majoring in Marketing Management, shares why he switched programs early in his academic career. Victor started in the School of Accounting and Finance but realized that he wanted to pursue Marketing which would allow him to explore his passions and creativity. He is also part of the Black Business Students Association (BBSA)  (external link)  and talks about how the Ted Rogers School offers so many events, workshops and Bootcamps for anything that interests you. Victor goes on to talk about how inviting, connected, and vibrant the community is.

Real Estate Management

Jeremiah Ayella, a student in the Real Estate Management program talks about his experience and achievements. As an international student, he shares what drew him to the Ted Rogers School of Management and the opportunities he saw in Toronto. Further, Jeremiah talks about the course union, the Ted Rogers Real Estate Association and how it supports Real Estate Management students.

Abdullah Bhutta, a student in the a ⁠Business Technology Management⁠ student,  program, talks about his experience in the program. major. Abdullah is the current President of the ⁠Information Technology Management Students’ Association (ITMSA)⁠ (external link, opens in new window)  which is the ⁠course union⁠ for the major. He goes on to share what students can expect from the program, courses, the ⁠Ted Rogers Co-op Program⁠ co-op program and talks about the advantages of being surrounded by different companies and being close to the financial district.

Accounting

Cayl Baggayan, a School of Accounting and Finance (SAF) student majoring in Accounting shares his unconventional journey. He explains his experience as a transfer student from a chemistry program and why he decided to pursue accounting. Cayl is also the incoming President of the Toronto Met Accounting (TMA) (external link)  course union and talks about how TMA supports students in the Accounting major.

Finance

Sinduja Sriskantharajah, a student in the School of Accounting and Finance majoring in Finance shares her valuable and wholesome experience at the Ted Rogers School of Management. She has been very involved in the Ted Rogers Student Society (external link)  and in TRSM in general. She has also been in the Co-op Program and outlines what she did in her roles and the potential job opportunities with this major. As Sinduja is on the cusp of graduating she shares some of the valuable skills she has gained in her time at TRSM  and how she will utilize them in the future.

Jillien Arrubio, a School of  Retail Management student, shares her passion for the program. Jillien started her academic journey in Early Childhood studies but later found that it was not the right fit for her. She transferred faculties into Retail Management at the Ted Rogers School and discusses how her program is based on experiential learning, career pathways, how to get involved and opportunities there are for students to explore the retail industry. 

Libby Worden, a Hospitality and Tourism Management (HTM) student, talks about why she chose the program. Libby always knew she wanted to help people and enjoys being customer-facing, so she knew the Hospitality program would be the right fit. Although HTM is a small program, she talks about how it feels like a small community within the Ted Rogers School. She is connected with her peers and the professors are supportive and available to students. She talks about how the major is quite interactive and encourages students to go outside of the classroom and get experience in the industry.
