Janie Goldstein holds an Electrical Engineering degree from McGill University and an MBA from Harvard Business School.
Janie is a contract lecturer at Toronto Metropolitan University. She was the instructor for the Fall 2019, 2020 and 2021 Family Business course at the Ted Rogers School of Management and Chang School in Winter 2020-2023. She was chosen as a lead presenter for the 2021 Ryerson Teaching and Learning Conference, the 2023 Toronto Metropolitan Teaching and Learning Conference and was selected for inclusion to Toronto Metropolitan University’s digital showcase for Inspired Teaching.
Janie began working as a Special Advisor to the Dean of the Ted Rogers School as part of a team to create and launch the Family Business Institute and serves as the Interim Executive Director.
She currently works as an independent consultant for family and non-family businesses and currently sits on the Board of her own family’s business where she also has some operational responsibility.
She has served as a judge for three years at University of Vermont's global Family Enterprise Case Competition and was one of the coaches for the 2023 Ted Rogers School team.
Janie is a Co-Founder and Treasurer of The Upside Foundation of Canada which provides a platform for Canadian startups to be philanthropic, by allocating a small percentage of equity at the outset which is ultimately given to charity - only when the startup has a successful exit. To date, nearly $3MM has been donated to charities and over 350 Canadian startups have pledged.
Janie has devoted significant time to non-profit Boards. For her various philanthropic and community efforts, she has received awards including a Canada 150 Exemplary Canadian Award (2017), Harvard Business School Alumna “Making a Difference” (2017) and an Eglinton-Lawrence Volunteer Service Award (2019).
She began her career in technical marketing, and then spent a decade at Monitor Group / Deloitte as a business strategy consultant. She then worked as the Vice President of Marketing and New Initiatives at a life sciences venture capital fund.
