Celebrating the achievements of the individuals and teams that have spearheaded equitable initiatives is a fundamental part of our journey towards achieving a fully inclusive environment. We believe it is vital to support the visibility of our faculty, staff and students who positively impact their communities both across the Ted Rogers School environment and beyond. From decolonization efforts to gender equity to supporting Black excellence, members of the Ted Rogers School continue to inspire us through meaningful demonstration of their values of allyship, equity and inclusion.

CIBC Co-op Student Award for Equity and Excellence

CIBC established the CIBC Co-op Student Award for Equity and Excellence through a generous $600,000 gift. The award will provide financial support for undergraduate Black, Indigenous and disability-identifying students who are newly admitted to the Co-op program. An analysis by the Office of the Vice-President, Equity and Community Inclusion revealed that these particular groups of students face barriers in applying to the Co-op program, one of them being the entry fee. This award, which offers $2,000 each to 75 students annually, reduces financial barriers, making it easier for students to participate in the Ted Rogers Co-op Program and gain essential industry experience.

Saje Catcheway

Saije Catcheway

2023-2024 inaugural recipient of the CPA Ontario Foundation Bursary for Indigenous Student Success

"I’d like to express my gratitude for the CPA Ontario Foundation Bursary for Indigenous Student Success. This award is truly a blessing, and I am incredibly thankful for being the recipient. Allow me to share a little about myself. My name is Saije Catcheway and I identify as Ojibwe Treaty to Skownan First Nation, Manitoba. I was born and raised in Winnipeg. My journey to TMU has been unexpected. I was set on pursuing my education and hockey career at Adrian College in Michigan. However, due to the pandemic, I faced financial concerns regarding US tuition and hockey payments. Eventually, I realized that Michigan wasn’t the place I was meant to stay. I felt scared to leave my goal of going to college and continuing hockey on scholarship. Coming to TMU has been a dream come true, and I am thankful for all the good that has come since being here. Receiving this award is one of my most cherished and proud achievements. I cannot thank you enough for creating this generous award. I believe this will continue to steer me towards a brighter future, and will allow me to afford living expenses and invest in other initiatives I couldn’t due to financial constraints. I will continue to use blessings like this as a way to inspire Indigenous youth and women. Thank you for your generous support."

Rikita Masand

Ritika Masand

2023-24 inaugural recipients of the Kenvue Award for Black, Indigenous and racialized students

"Receiving this award has been one of the highlights of my year, and I am so grateful. Thank you so much for considering me for this award! It's thanks to donors such as yourself that students' lives become a little easier. These awards have supported me financially, as they have helped cover a huge portion of my tuition. They have helped take financial burden off of me. This also means I am able to work fewer hours and spend that time doing things such as studying, extracurriculars or learning new skills (I'm currently learning Tableau!) to achieve my goals like good grades and making an impact. Receiving these awards has also helped me feel recognized for my community work. Volunteering oftentimes goes unnoticed, and I am so grateful that these awards not only helped me financially, but also helped me feel recognized. Thank you so much again!"
