The future of communication for people with hard of hearing and hearing loss: An AI-based sign language interpreter.

Most organizations and service providers are not accessible enough to the deaf community in providing them sign language services. Moverover, Technology and digital world is growing so fast, but it is not inclusive enough for people with hard of hearing and hearing loss. These people fall behind in using technology due to insufficiency in technology accessibility. In the age of communication, there is no proper technological means of communication for them. Even worse, COVID makes their lives hard since they are unable to adopt these new norms of life such as wearing masks, online meetings, remote working, online learning and so on.

Deaf AI emerges to address the societal issue by engaging artificial intelligence to improve the experience of using the digital world for these people, making technology more accessible. It helps the deaf community communicate with people who do not know sign language, making society more inclusive. Deaf AI brings about a transition from human-based services in sign language to AI-based services by AI-based sign language interpreters. As a result, sign language services would be accessible, available, and affordable for service providers and service users.
