All Earthlings is an organization dedicated to improving social and environmental impacts within the fashion, food, and beauty sectors for the benefit of #AllEarthlings. AE’s #SHARKLESS Initiative aims to illuminate the cosmetic industry’s persistent and clandestine use of shark-derived squalene and support the transition to sustainable plant-based sources.  We connect brands with opportunities to remedy hidden impacts to species and ecosystems at risk through holistic and data-driven strategy. 

AE takes a definitively collaborative approach to managing the risks associated with sourcing squalene. By taking AE's #SHARKLESS Pledge, brands acknowledge squalene as an ingredient with a sensitive supply chain, receive a customized #SHARKLESS Policy, and agree to test their squalane to ensure it's plant-based. Together, the actions that comprise the #SHARKLESS Pledge ensure ingredient efficacy and an unequivocal stance on the commodification of sharks for their oil. 

Currently, there is no reliable way for consumers to avoid animal-derived ingredients, including shark squalene, in cosmetics. Brands themselves are often unaware that shark squalene exists in their lengthly, global supply chains. Third party testing to determine ingredient origin is the only way to be certain that a product or ingredient is in fact vegan or cruelty-free. These logos are acquired by paying a licensing fee and cannot guaruntee the absense of animal-derived ingredients or the absense of animal cruelty in the truest sense.
