"One of the perks of being part of the SVZ network is tapping into their larger presence in the social innovation space and connections in the city. This was helpful when trying to navigate new and unique problems as a social entrepreneur."

UnCo is an online platform through which women can build capsule wardrobes comprised of 6-8-12 pieces of clothing. UnCo then shows how to mix and match those pieces to result in 20-30-40 outfits.

Each year, nearly 80 billion pieces of clothing are purchased. Eighty-five percent of that apparel ends up in landfills. With society buying into cheaply made and quickly changing new trends, there is rampant exploitation of labourers and the environment. Determined to change these statistics, Kim founded UnCo with a team of alumnae and students from the University of Ottawa, Toronto Metropolitan’s Fashion Communication program, and the Ted Rogers School of Management.

By simplifying the wardrobe curation process, UnCo aimed to change the relationship people have with their clothes while encouraging them to choose responsibly made designers and brands.
