"The weekly Caffeinated Innovators meetings definitely helped keep my mind in a positive space. As an entrepreneur who’s starting up, it’s vital to have the right people standing in your corner... I have a family in the SVZ that supported not just my social enterprise, but me as a person."

Tees That Feed isn’t just a startup venture for Althea. It is a deeply personal mission. Althea grew up in low income housing in some of Toronto’s roughest neighbourhoods and witnessed children around her going to school hungry. After graduating from Humber College’s Multi Media Design Advance Diploma Program in 2012, Althea wanted to find a way to give back to those who supported her and pushed her to excel. Althea came up with the idea to produce a high quality, ethically-sourced, eco-friendly clothing brand that would allow people to feel good about their apparel – beyond the comfort and cool look of the custom-printed tees.

Tees That Feed ties the purchase of a T-shirt to the provision of nutritious breakfasts on a consistent basis for children living below the poverty line. Each stylish T-shirt is packaged in a uniquely designed cereal box that reminds the purchaser of the messaging and motivation behind each sale. As a change-maker, Althea aspires to see children in need break negative cycles of academic incompletion and reach their full educational potential and life goals.
