Chic Made Consciously is a sustainable fashion accessory brand that works with artisans in Bali & Cambodia to transform waste from tires and war remnants into wearable handcrafted fashion.

The current model of fashion has seen a dramatic increase in both production and consumption where we are now consuming 400% more than we were just 20 years ago. This large scale manufacturing has both an impact on the people behind what is made as well as the planet. As we demand for lower and lower prices the people who make what we wear are paid below poverty, and we are also hurting our environment with our current linear model of continuously creating “new” products with virgin resources.

Thus, Chic Made Consciously was born with a conscious fashion solution to these problems.

As Cassandra was travelling in the summer of 2014 through South East Asia, she happened to meet local artisans in Bali who were handcrafting a line of gorgeous accessories from tires. She worked with them, creating some pieces herself and learning about the tire issue on the island. The more she learned about their story, the more she was inspired to work with these artisans and encourage others to live a life of conscious consumption.

So, she launched Chic Made Consciously (CMC), a sustainable accessory company that is working with artisan groups to pay them fair wages and upcycling materials that would otherwise be in landfill for a model of circularity. CMC works with Balinese artisans to transform tire waste and has most recently launched a new line working with artisans in Cambodia upcycling brass from war remnants. These accessories that include bracelets, bags, wallets, belts, rings and necklaces, are her conscious fashion solution.

After personally travelling to both Bali & Cambodia herself, Cassandra makes it Chic Made Consciously’s mission to create long lasting personal relationships with the artisans and be able to show the real people behind the products. This fosters more of a connection for consumers to learn that there is a real human behind everything that is made and understand their purchases can have a lasting impact on the world!
