Free Store donation drive: Support students and help save the planet!

The Sustainability Office is holding a donation drive to collect items for its monthly pop-up Free Store. By donating your gently-used items, not only will you be giving these a second life—you’ll also be supporting student success by providing students in need with access to essential items needed for productive work and study.
What is the Free Store?
The Free Store is a “pop-up” shop that helps students save money while reducing TMU’s environmental impact. By finding new homes for items in good condition that we no longer need, we’re contributing to a more responsible use of resources and providing needed supplies to our student community.
Reuse is a critical step in sustainable living. Extending the life cycle of goods that are still reliable helps to reduce the carbon emissions associated with the production and transportation of raw materials and diverts materials from waste streams. The Free Store is a means of disrupting throwaway culture in favour of sharing and exchanging items, benefitting our student community and bolstering the preservation of our living planet.
Anyone can contribute to the donation drive!
This year’s donation drive is happening on October 3 and 10 from 9 a.m. to 4 p.m.
If you have items in good condition that you no longer need, bring them to the Free Store at VIC-403 or the donation bin by VIC-800. They will be offered by the Free Store to students at no cost to support their academic, living and leisure activities during their time at TMU.
The smoothie blender you bought, used for one week, then never used again? Donate it! The laptop desk you keep intending (and forgetting) to post on Kijiji? Bring it to the Free Store! The Baby Yoda cookie jar that your partner thinks is tacky? Keep that, it’s precious.
Please ensure that the items you’re donating are not damaged, are clean and are fit for use. If your item is not suitable for the Free Store drive, we cannot accept them due to limited space, but we encourage you to find an alternate venue for redistribution.
