Celebrating 50 years of building community

To kick off the School of Urban and Regional Planning's (SURP) 50th anniversary celebrations, all SURP students were invited to participate in a contest to design an anniversary identity for the school.
A jury comprised of professors Ron Keeble and Magdalena Ugarte, administrative coordinator Melissa Eluik, and alumni Vincent Racine and Neil Loewen received and reviewed eight submissions. The jury took into consideration the graphic quality of all entries, their versatility, and their conceptual robustness.
The jury unanimously chose the proposal designed by recent graduate Azure Pham. The jury found the design conceptually solid and evocative, and graphically well executed. The members particularly appreciated the dynamic spirit of the anniversary identity and its multiple conceptual interpretations – connections and movement, number five is also an arrow that suggests evolution and could be interpreted as the blueprint of Toronto’s City Hall building.
Azure Pham is a recent graduate of Ryerson University's Urban and Regional Planning Program and SURP's new transportation planning cluster. She is particularly interested in transportation planning and urban design.
Azure was recognized at the Ryerson Planning Alumni Association's (RPAA) Annual Gala on May 22, where the anniversary identity was officially unveiled. Congratulations to Azure on the creation of a well executed design that will help the school to celebrate its 50 years of achievements!
