Join the Spatial Ecology Team!
Our lab regularly has opportunities available for:
- Undergraduate Students: fourth-year thesis students, summer Research Assistants (paid Career Boost positions, NSERC undergraduate scholarships (external link) , and University Research Opportunities URO), and volunteer Research Assistants
- Graduate Students: masters and PhD levels, often from the Molecular Science, Spatial Analysis, or Environmental Applied Science and Management programs
- Postdoctoral Fellows: For more information, visit the university’s website for postdoctoral fellows.
The Spatial Ecology Lab Experience
Our lab members gain specialized training in geo-spatial analytical methods, data science, lab, and/or field methods, depending on the research project and student interests. Much of the work relies on GIS (Geographic Information Science) and statistical skills. For success in this area, candidates should already have some ability in statistics (such as successful completion of an undergraduate statistics course).
Though we do not work specifically in a wet lab facility, opportunities are available through our collaborations with the university’s Urban Water Research Centre and our access to the Centre for Urban Innovation.
Application Process
If you’re interested in joining our lab, check out the lab’s research areas in urban and spatial ecology, and then send an email to Dr. Melles, indicating what your research interests are. If your research interests align with those of the lab, and should there be positions available, Dr. Melles will let you know about next steps, such as an interview and further steps in the application process.
