
Filiz Klassen is an artist, researcher and professor teaching at Toronto Metropolitan University, School of Interior Design since 1997. Her research emphasizes materiality with a focus on adaptability of architecture and interiors that improve built environments' impact on climate change and waste streams. She has received industry and government funding for her project Malleable Matter: Material Innovations in Architecture (2005-2020) (Research/Creation grant from the Social Science and Humanities Research Council of Canada, and Integrated Projects Grant from Ontario Arts Council). Professor Klassen has exhibited her work and presents at conferences internationally and nationally. Her articles on material innovations leading to climate responsive environments are published in books as well as in other academic and professional journals.
