Supporting Survivors Of Intimate Partner Violence Workshop
Intimate partner violence (IPV) is one of the most common forms of relationship violence. It includes physical, sexual, and emotional abuse and controlling behaviours by an intimate partner. IPV refers to any behaviour within an intimate relationship that causes physical, psychological or sexual harm to those in the relationship.
You can support campus community members by learning ways to respond with care and compassion when they disclose. Begin by listening, respecting confidentiality, asking what they need, validate and empathizing can be the first steps to being an ally to survivors of intimate partner violence. In this training, participants will learn the difference between disclosure and reporting and how to support someone affected by intimate partner violence. In addition, participants will learn how to refer them to support on and off-campus and how to practice self-care after trauma exposure.
